Memorizing these can be very useful for evaluating many GMAT sentences.

16. As .....as
- as........as: used when we are comparing two people or things, or two situations.

Examples

                            You're as tall as your father
                            It's not as hard as I thought
                            Run as fast as you can

17. As to
- as to sth: used when we are referring to something 

   Examples

                       As to tax, that will be deducted from your salary.
                       As to his salary, that too will be reviewed
     
18. At least as......as

Example
                 Robot Band is at least as good as Coldplay.
Note
             We don't say: Robot Band is as good or better than Coldplay.

Another example

           In a recently poll, 86 percent of the public favored a Clear Air Act as strong or stronger than the present act. (INCORRECT!)

>>> In a recently poll, 86 percent of the public favored a Clear Air Act as least as strong as the present act.

19. Attend to
- attend to sb/sth = to deal with sb/sth; to take care of sb/sth

Examples

                           I have some urgent business to attend to.
                         A nurse attended to his needs constantly.

20. Attribute A to B
- Attribute sth to sth = to say or believe sth is the result of a particular thing

Example

                    She attributes her success to hard work and a little luck.

- Attribute (sth) to sb = to say or believe that sb is responsible for doing something, especially for saying, writing or painting sth

Example

                  This play is usually attributed to Shakespeare.

11. Accuse of
- accuse sb (of sth) = to say that sb has done sth wrong or is guilty of sth

Examples

                    She accused him of lying.
                    The government was accused of incompetence.

12. Acquaint with
- acquaint sb/yourself with sth = to make sb/yourself familiar with or aware of sth

 Examples

                 You will first need to acquaint yourself with the filling system.
                 Let me acquaint you with my family.

13. Aid in 
- aid in sth/ doing something : to help sb/sth to do sth, especially by making it easier

Examples

                The new test should aid in the early detection of the disease.

The explorers needed aid in finding drinking water - in aid of sb/sth: in order to help sb/sth   Example                                Collecting money in aid of charity. 14. Allergy to - allergy to sth : a medical condition that causes you to react badly  or feel sick/ill when you eat or touch a particular substance Examples                I have an allergy to animal hair.               An allergy to pollen can cause hay fever 15. Argue with - argue with sth = to disagree with the statement ( usually used  in negative sentence) Example                  He's a successful man - you can't argue with that. - Argue with sb = to speak angrily to sb because you disagree with  them  Example                       I don't want to argue with you - just do it! 6. Act like
- Act like sb/sth: to behave in a particular way

   Example

          "Stop acting like a kid", a girl said to her boy friend.

7. Associate with
- Associate sb/sth with sb/sth = connection between people or things in your mind.

 Examples

           Most people immediately associate additions with drugs, alcohol and cigarettes.
           He always associates the smell of baking with his childhood.

8. Account for sth
- Account for sth = to be the explanation or cause of something.

 Example

         The poor weather may have accounted for the small crowd.

- Account for = to be a particular part of something

 Example

              The Japanese market accounts for 35% of the company's revenue.

9. On account of 
- On account of sb/sth = because of sb/sth

Example

                    She retired early on account of ill health.

10.  Take account of sth
- Take account of sth = take something into account = to consider particular facts, circumstances, etc when making a decision about something

Examples

          The company takes account of environment issues wherever possible.
          Coursework is taken into account as well as exam results.
